Tryster takes the Winter Derby
Tryster, a four-year-old son of Shamardal, retained his 2015 unbeaten record in fine style on 14 March when sweeping down the Lingfield straight to land the feature race of the day, the £100,000 G3 Winter Derby.
Sent off as favourite, Charlie Appleby's charge was settled towards the rear of the field as expected and came with a fantastic late charge under Adam Kirby to fly past his rivals and win the ten-furlong contest by three-quarters of a length.
This was his fourth consecutive victory, all this year. He also broke his maiden by no fewer than five lengths last July.
Bred by Herbertstown House Stud, he is one of seven winners out of the Stakes-placed Riverman mare Min Alhawa, herself a half-sister to 1,000 Guineas winner Harayir.
Shamardal has now sired eight individual Black type performers this year, including Hong Kong superstar and muliple G1 winner Able Friend (who reappears in tomorrow’s G1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin), plus Fond Words, who landed the Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit earlier this week.
Shamardal’s fee for 2015 is €70,000 October 1st SLF.
