Multiple G1 winner Helmet enjoyed strong returns at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale this week, with his first crop of yearlings selling for an average of just under A$100,000.
The stallion saved his best til last with his two highest-priced lots both going through the ring on the final day of selling at the three-day auction. The highest priced of his representatives was a colt out of a daughter of the Stakes-winning mare Tickle My, who was purchased for A$220,000.
Close behind was another of his colts, out of a Falbrav mare, who was purchased for A$200,000. Those sales were among 23 yearlings sold which assisted Helmet to an aggregate of A$2,287,500 for an average of A$99,457, while Helmet’s yearlings returned a healthy median of A$85,000.
Helmet’s sire Exceed And Excel provided the joint sales-topper during the final day of the sale, when a full-sister to the G1 winner Amber Sky was purchased for A$420,000. Helmet’s fellow first-crop sire Sepoy also enjoyed a good sale, with a top price of A$350,000 and an average of A$144,000 for nine lots sold.
