Cape Cross at the double
Cape Cross recorded his second Black type winner in as many days on 9 August, when his daughter Token Of Love ran out the easy winner of the Listed Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes at Haydock Park.
Making her Stakes debut, Token Of Love was never far from the pace under Joe Fanning and taking the lead a furlong from home, kept on superbly to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs, she is out of the Stakes-placed Fantastic Light mare Nyarhini, who has produced three winners from three foals to race. She is herself a half-sister to the great racemare Rebecca Sharp, who won the G1 Coronation Stakes and was second in the QEII.
Her victory comes just hours after Cape Cross’s two-year-old son Convergence recorded a superb five-length victory in the Listed Canford Cliffs Stakes at Tipperary.
The Ger Lyons-trained colt made every yard of the seven-furlong contest and eased clear of his rivals to win by five lengths from odds-on favourite East India.
Convergence was bred by Shadwell and is out of the Nayef mare Zahoo, who finished second in the Gillies Fillies’ Stakes at three. She is a half-sister to Group winner Tactic and is a granddaughter of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Mehthaaf.
Cape Cross is now sire of 19 individual Black type performers this year, including last month’s Summer Mile winner Guest Of Honour, plus the ill-fated Lesstalk In Paris – second to Rizeena (Iffraaj) in the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
