Cape Cross filly win her second Stakes race
Zurigha, a four-year-old filly by Cape Cross, won her second career Stakes race on Saturday April 19 when taking the Listed Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes over a mile at Kempton. Making her seasonal debut, she was close to the slow early pace before taking up the running just over a furlong from home to beat the fast-finishing Ribbons (Manduro) by one-and-a-quarter lengths.
The winner of the Listed Rosemary Stakes at Newmarket last season, Zurigha has now won half of her eight starts and was also a close fourth in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches in May last season.
Bred by Sir Nicholas & Lady Nugent, Zurigha is out of the Docksider mare Noyelles and is a half-sister to Lily's Angel, winner of the G3 Chartwell Fillies' Stakes and second in the G1 Matron Stakes.
Cape Cross, who stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €30,000, is the sire of 86 Stakes winners including eight at top-flight level including the modern greats Ouija Board and Sea The Stars. Zurigha becomes his third Stakes winner of 2014 after G3-winning filly Lesstalk In Paris, who heads next to the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, and Dubai winner Asmar, who was also an excellent second in the G2 UAE Derby.
