Earthquake remains unbeaten
Having won the G1 Blue Diamond at her most recent run, two-year-old Exceed And Excel filly Earthquake started a short price favourite in the G2 Reisling Stakes at Rosehill and did not let her supporters down.
Defeating the previously unbeaten Mossfun, with Alpha Miss back in third, Earthquake’s victory clearly puts the filly at the top of calculations for the G1 Golden Slipper that is run in two weeks, and if successful, will give the Darley stallions the past four winners; Sepoy (Elusive Quality) in 2011, Pierro (Lonhro) in 2012 and Overreach (Exceed And Excel) in 2013.
Bred by Darley, Earthquake is out of G3-placed Marauding mare Cataclysm, a half-sister to Stakes winners El Cambio and Complicate as well as to the dam of Listed winner Excellent Reward. Also the dam of Listed winner Palomares, Cataclysm has a yearling filly by Commands, foaled a Sepoy filly last Spring and is now back in foal to Sepoy.
The second stakes winner of the day at Rosehill for Exceed And Excel after the earlier victory of Kencella, Exceed And Excel is the sire of 81 Stakes winners, highlighted by G1-winning juveniles Overreach, Guelph, Reward For Effort and Darley stallion Helmet.
Exceed And Excel stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £35,000 alongside his triple G1-winning son Helmet who stands at a fee of £8,000.
