Catkins claws back victory
A gallant second in the G1 Myer Classic at her final run last preparation, four-year-old Dubawi mare Catkins resumed from her break in the G2 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic over 6f at Rosehill on February 15.
Jumping to the lead from the inside barrier, jockey Hugh Bowman allowed the mare to settle in second behind Steps In Time, the winner of this race for the past two years.
As the field of mares headed for home, Catkins came off the heels of the leader and while it took the length of the straight to catch the leader, the highly talented grey mare produced the goods, winning the race, her fifth Stakes race, by a half head margin.
Bred by Owen Carter, Catkins is the second foal from Catbird mare Salix Caprea, a half-sister to Stakes winner Rally.
The sire of 67 Stakes winners globally highlighted by G1 winners Lucky Nine, Akeed Mofeed, Secret Admirer, Makfi and Darley stallions Monterosso and Poet's Voice, Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 October 1st Special Live Foal.
