Akeed Mofeed storms to victory in the G1 Hong Kong Cup

Akeed Mofeed, winner of the Hong Kong Derby earlier this year, returned to winning ways at Sha Tin in tremendous fashion when landing the G1 Hong Kong Cup on 8 December.

Settled just off the early leaders, the four-year-old colt travelled smoothly on the inside rail and switching out with two furlongs left to run, soon moved up towards the front and showed a tremendous late burst of speed in the closing stages to win by a length.

Akeed Mofeed was originally trained in Ireland by John Oxx, where he won the Listed Platinum Stakes as a three-year-old, having broken his maiden by no fewer than five lengths at two. He transferred to Hong Kong at the end of 2012.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Akeed Mofeed is out of the Tiger Hill mare Wonder Why, a half-sister to two Stakes winners in Whispered Secret and Wells Present. She is from the immediate female family of Hernando, plus fellow G1 winner Johann Quatz.

Dubawi has sired five individual G1 winners this year alone, including Al Kazeem, who triumphed at the highest level on three occasions in 2013. His ratios of 14 per cent Stakes winners and nine per cent Group winners are unmatched by any other stallion.

He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 Special Live Foal.
