Lonsdale Cup victory for Ahzeemah
Dubawi’s four-year-old son Ahzeemah is, like his sire, a wonderfully genuine performer and on 23 August he recorded a well-deserved G2 victory when landing the Lonsdale Cup at York.
Settled just off the pace under Silvestre de Sousa, Ahzeemah was travelling beautifully as the field turned for home and demonstrated his usual tenacity when outbattling Simenon to win by a head. This was the second Pattern victory for the Godolphin runner, who landed the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan back in March. Never finishing further back than fourth in his career, Ahzeemah has now won five times, placed second eight times and finished third twice in 17 starts. He may now head to Australia for a tilt at the Melbourne Cup.
Bred by G O’Brien, Ahzeemah is the best performer to date out of the Stakes-placed Entrepreneur mare Swiss Roll, herself a full-sister to G1 performer Berenson and a half-sister to Group-winning filly Pollen.
A half-brother to Ahzeemah, by fellow Darley stallion Vale Of York, will be offered at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2.
Dubawi, who set the sales ring alight at Arqana last week, is sire of 16 individual Stakes winners so far this year, including eight who have won at G1 or G2 level.
