Shirocco at the double on the downs!
Less than an hour after Brown Panther took the G2 Goodwood Cup, another of Shirocco’s talented offspring – Wild Coco – made the perfect seasonal debut when justifying odds-on favouritism to take the G3 Lillie Langtry Stakes for the second consecutive year.
Last seen winning the G2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster last season, the five-year-old mare (who is trained by Lady Cecil) has had to wait patiently to make her reappearance with fast ground preventing her from running earlier in the year. The wait, however, was certainly worth it as she cruised home to win by two and a half lengths from Elik.
Wild Coco, who sold for 985,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Sale last year, is now likely to step up to G1 level, with a tilt at the Darley Yorkshire Oaks one possibility.
Bred by Gestut Rottgen, Wild Coco is out of the G2 winner Wild Side and is from a classy German family packed with Black type winners.
Shirocco is also sire of fellow Group winners Arrigo, Grand Vent, Abu Sidra and Hartani, plus G1 performers Ibicenco and Shirocco Star.
