Second G1 victory for Lucky Nine
Lucky Nine has been a tremendous international campaigner for his sire Dubawi, and on 19 May he added a second G1 victory to his impressive record when landing the International Sprint at Kranji in Singapore.
Breaking smartly from the stalls, he was settled in third position and once the field turned for home and a gap appeared, the result never looked in doubt as he sped clear to win easily.
This was his 12th career victory and his seventh at Black type level. His previous G1 win was in the Hong Kong Sprint in 2011. The six-year-old has been placed on a further 12 times during his outstanding career.
Bred in Ireland by Darley, Lucky Nine is out of the Green Desert mare Birjand, a cross that has also produced Group winners Makfi and Dubawi Gold. Birjand, who is a daughter of G1-winning juvenile Belle Genius, has also produced a pair of colts who have recently become Group performers in Japan by Storming Home, namely Sudden Storm and Teehaff.
Dubawi has now sired three winners at the highest level in 2013, with Hunter’s Light and juvenile colt Willow Magic both landing G1 contests this year. He has now sired 13 individual Stakes winners, and a further 13 runners who have been Stakes placed including four who have been placed at G1 level.
He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £75,000 October 1st SLF.
