Gold Cup glory for Cavalryman
Cavalryman, the evergreen son of Halling, took his career Stakes tally to six when easily deposing of his rivals in the G3 Dubai Gold Cup on the Meydan turf. Showing a devastating burst of speed in the straight, he won with lots in hand with the consistent son of Dubawi, Ahzeemah, a gallant second. His trainer, Saeed bin Suroor, indicated post-race that he is likely to he aimed at the Ascot Gold Cup in June.
This was the second running of the Dubai staying showpiece, with the first also being won by another son of Halling in Opinion Poll.
Bred by Darley, he is out of the Group-mare Silversword, a sister to Champion stayer Double Honour. Silversword also has a two-year-old colt by Shamardal and a colt foal brother to Cavalryman born earlier this month.
Halling, who will stand this season for £10,000 Oct 1st SLF, is famed for siring tough and consistent runners. Cavalryman is one of 26 Group winners, who average nearly 27 starts apiece with earnings of over £342,000.
