Cape Cross gelding wins second Stakes race
Having been in Australia for a little over 12 months after being imported from the United Kingdom, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Cape Cross gelding Julienas recorded his second Stakes victory on 23 March, winning the Listed Sky High Stakes by one-and-three-quarter lengths.
Leading throughout in typical fashion for a runner of the Gai Warehouse stable, Julienas veered out sharply on two occassions down the home straight, almost unseating jockey Nash Rawiller. Having had six starts in Australia since arriving, the talented gelding has recored two Listed victories, and has finished outside the top three only once.
Trainer Gai Waterhouse stated after the race that Julienas will now head towards the G1 Sydney Cup over 2 miles at the end of the Sydney Autumn carnival.
Bred by Pendley Farm, Julienas is out of the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner and G1 Phoenix Stakes third Dora Carrington, herself a half-sister to G1 winner Primo Valentino.
The sire of 74 Stakes winners including nine at G1 level, Cape Cross is standing the current season at Kildangan Stud at a of €35,000 October 1st SLF.
