Hunter’s Light shines bright
Progressive Dubawi colt Hunter’s Light rounded off his season in tremendous fashion on 4 November when successful on his G1 debut, winning the ten-furlong Premio Roma at Cappanelle racecourse in Rome.
Settled in third position under Silvestre de Sousa, Hunter's Light took up the running at the top of the home straight and despite hanging badly during the closing stages, kept on superbly to win by two lengths. This was the third winner of this race for Godolphin, following the success of Cherry Mix and more recently, new Darley recruit Rio de la Plata.
The Godolphin colt has now won on seven occasions, with no fewer than six of these victories at Black type level. Earlier this year he won the G3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes and found only Cirrus des Aigles too good in the G2 Prix Dollar last time out. He may now head to Hong Kong for next month's International meeting.
Bred by Darley, Hunter’s Light is out of the winning Barathea mare Portmanteau and boasts an impeccable pedigree, being from the family of Darshaan and outstanding producer Darara – dam of seven Black type horses including Singspiel’s multiple G1 winner Dar Re Mi, Hong Kong Champion Diaghilev and Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and Dubai Sheema Classic winner Rewilding.
Portmanteau is also dam of Manduro’s very promising three-year-old daughter Linda Radlett, and has a yearling full-sister to Hunter’s Light.
Dubawi has now sired nine individual G1 winners, including this year’s Dubai World Cup victor Monterosso, German Derby winner Waldpark ( who was a creditable fourth in today’s race), plus QEII Stakes winner and fellow Darley stallion Poet's Voice.
