Raven’s Pass gets Tattersalls October Sale off to a flying start

The first day’s trading of Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book One posted a record-breaking aggregate of over 23 million guineas, helped in no small way by Darley first-season sire Raven's Pass who was responsible for the top lot of the day when his son of Irish Guineas winner Nightime was sold for 800,000gns.

Bought by John Ferguson, with John Magnier as underbidder, the colt (pictured) was consigned by Castlebridge on behalf of Mrs Marguerite Weld. Raven’s Pass had one other yearling offered on Tuesday, who also provided a healthy return for her breeders Camas Park Stud when the hammer fell at 130,000gns. She is out of the G3 winner Miss Anabaa and is from the family of Champion sprinter Owington.

Raven’s Pass has been enjoying a fantastic year with his first runners, with G2 Royal Lodge Stakes winner Steeler heading up his list of ten individual winners.

There was also success on the opening day for Teofilo, whose half-brother to Shamardal’s multiple Group winner Dunboyne Express sold for 600,000gns to become the third highest-price of the day. Offered by Jockey Hall Stud on behalf of John Connaughton, he was bought by Shadwell.

Yearlings by Dubawi, now well established as one of Europe’s leading sires, were also in demand and his highest price of the day was 470,000gns, given by Form Bloodstock for his colt out of Manoeuvre. He was consigned by Highclere Stud and his dam is a half-sister  to one of Dubawi’s 28 Group winners – Astrophysical Jet.
