Steeler, one of ten juvenile winners from Raven's Pass’ first crop, landed his biggest race to date, when breaking the juvenile track record in the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes over a mile at Newmarket. Making his fifth career start and on the back of a Stakes victory at Goodwood, he was always close to the pace and under a confident ride from Kieron Fallon, he exerted coming out of the dip to win going away by one length.
Bred by Airlie Stud, Steeler is a half-brother to the Stakes-placed filly Doggerbank and out of the G3 Park Hill winner Discreet Brief (by Darshaan), who also has a colt foal by Shamardal.
He now joins his sire in becoming juvenile record-setters, with Raven’s Pass’ record coming in the G3 Solario Stakes at Sandown. Later going on to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes as a three-year-old, his first-crop are juveniles this season and he has made a very encouraging start. Amongst his ten winners are group-colt Glean and Stakes-placed filly, Lovely Pass, with a number of promising winners including Race and Status, rated 94P by Timeform after his debut win at Newbury and Great Timing, who won a competitive maiden at Newmarket.
