New Stakes winner for Cape Cross

Julienas lands the Wyong Gold Cup, now heads for the G1 Metropolitan

Julienas, an Irish-bred son of Cape Cross who won three times when trained by Walter Swinburn, has relocated to Gai Watershouse in Australia and seems to have relished the move as he recorded his first Stakes win with victory in the Listed Wyong Gold Cup.

Breaking well from the gate, Julienas was settled in a handy fourth position under jockey Nash Rawiller and travelling beautifully throughout the ten-and-a-half-furlong contest, held off a late surge from Gazza Guru to win by a head.

He will now be aimed at the 12-furlong G1 Metropolitan, due to take place at Randwick in Sydney on 6 October.

Bred by Pendley Farm, Julienas is out of the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner and G1 Phoenix Stakes third Dora Carrington, herself a half-sister to G1 winner Primo Valentino.

Cape Cross, sire of over 500 European-bred winners and no fewer than nine G1 winners, is also sire this year of Windsor Forest Stakes winner and G1-placed filly Joviality, plus juvenile Group horses Luhaif and Amazonas.
