Dubawi’s globetrotting son Yibir bounced back to his best in superb fashion on Thursday, 7 July with a convincing win in the G2 Princess Of Wales’s Stakes on the opening day of Newmarket’s July Festival.
Settled towards the rear of the field under William Buick, while stablemate Global Storm set the early pace, Yibir was asked to quicken two furlongs out. Switched left with a furlong left to run, he then eased clear to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Global Storm (Night Of Thunder) kept on well to take third.
Yibir took the G3 Bahrain Trophy at this meeting last year, before landing the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. He rounded off his season with a brilliant win in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar.
This year he has never finished out of the first three, placing in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and the G1 Man O’War Stakes. A return to the US could now be on the cards, with the Breeders’ Cup his likely long-term target.
Yibir is one of 17 individual Group winners for Dubawi so far in 2022, also sire of G1 2,000 Guineas and G1 St James’s Palace Stakes hero Coroebus, plus French Guineas winner Modern Games and G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes winner Naval Crown (who reappears in Saturday’s G1 Darley July Cup).aaa
