Wild Coco, sent off red-hot favourite on a decidedly damp day at Newmarket, was the comfortable winner of the Listed Newsells Park Stud Stakes over a mile and a half of the July Course.
The three-year-old Shirocco filly held her elder rival Meeznah at bay in the closing stages to post her second consecutive win from just three starts for her owner/breeder Gestut Rottgen.
A well-made chesnut, Wild Coco looks certain to be seen in Group races for the remainder of the season. She follows in the footsteps of her talented dam, Wild Side, a Group Two-winning daughter of Sternkoenig and a half-sister to G1 Preis Der Diana runner-up White Rose.
Shirocco has enjoyed a tremendous year with his three-year-olds so far, with a brace of Group Two winners, Arrigo and Grand Vent, plus the Listed scorer Jardina. Other black-type performers include Group Three runner-up Ibicenco, Mourasana, Rising Wind and Sommernachtstraum, while he also enjoyed his first Royal Ascot winner courtesy of the progressive Brown Panther, who is owned and bred by England footballer Michael Owen.
