Manduro’s three-year-old son Vazirabad has been a model of consistency this year and has progressed through the ranks beautifully over the past six weeks. On 25 October, he recorded his biggest win to date and third consecutive Pattern victory when landing the G1 Prix Royal-Oak at Saint-Cloud.
Sent off as favourite, Vazirabad (who is trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre) was settled towards the rear of the field under Christophe Soumillon and travelled well throughout the one-mile, seven-and-a-half-furlong contest. Asked to quicken once entering the home straight, he responded brilliantly and swept past his rivals to win by a length.
Vazirabad broke his maiden over 15 furlongs back in July, in the start of a five-race winning streak. He has also been victorious in the G3 Prix de Lutece at Longchamp and before today, was last seen running out the impressive winner of the G2 Prix Chaudenay on Arc weekend.
Owned and bred by HH The Aga Khan, Vazirabad is out of the Group-winning Linamix mare Visorama, also dam of Stakes-winning filly Visorinya. The mare is herself a half-sister to G1 winner Varenar.
Manduro has now sired six individual G1 winners, including this year’s Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere victor UItra and Prix Jean Romanet winner Ribbons, who added a victory in the G2 Blandford Stakes to her record last month.
