The brilliant Vazirabad added yet another sterling accomplishment to his resume when he rallied from far back to take the G2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier for the third consecutive year.
It was the 13th Group victory for the son of Manduro, who now boasts 15 wins and five second-place finishes in 22 career starts.
Settled near the rear of the field through the early stages of the one mile and seven-furlong contest, Vazirabad began to close on the leaders with three furlongs left to run. Displaying a sharp turn of foot, Vazirabad split rivals and took the lead with just under a furlong to go and held on to post a neck victory.
Owned and bred by H.H. The Aga Khan, Vazirabad is a son of the G3-winning mare Visorama (Linamix) and a half-brother to the Stakes winner Visoriyna.
In addition to Vazirabad, Horse of the Year Manduro has sired five other G1 winners, including Ultra and Mandaean. Manduro is also the sire of Time To Choose, recent winner of the Listed Premio Bereguardo in Milan.
