Two new winners for Raven's Pass
Raven's Pass has made a promising start to his stud career, with this month’s Stardom Stakes winner Steeler heading up his ever-increasing list of winners. On 22 September, he increased this list to ten when firstly Great Timing won in convincing fashion at Newmarket, before Race And Status looked to be a very exciting prospect when winning on his debut at Newbury.
Great Timing led the group on the far side from the outset at HQ, and when the Godolphin filly was asked to quicken two furlongs from home she responded well under Frankie Dettori to take the lead a furlong out and win by half a length from long-time leader Vanity Rules (who is by fellow Darley first-season sire New Approach).
Bred by Pin Oak Stud, Great Timing is out of the Kris S mare Rumors Are Flying, making her a half-sister to three Black type performers including No Use Denying and G2 colt Badge Of Truth. The dam is herself a half-sister to G1 winner Missed The Storm and is from the family of Chief’s Crown.
Later in the afternoon, Race And Status became the tenth winner for his sire with a very impressive debut victory over seven furlongs at Newbury. Always prominent under Jimmy Fortune, the Andrew Balding-trained colt could not be caught by his rivals and won easily by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by John Connaughton, Race And Status is out of the Polish Precedent mare Love Excelling, a half-sister to Love Divine (dam of Sixties Icon) and also dam of Shamardal's dual G3 winner Dunboyne Express.
Raven’s Pass is also sire of the Stakes-placed Lovely Pass, plus multiple winners Interesting and Snowboarder.
