The World Thoroughbred Rankings, published today, confirmed the outstanding year enjoyed by the Darley stallions in 2009, with them responsible for three of the top six ranked horses.
Sea The Stars, the outstanding son of Cape Cross who stormed to a history-making six G1 victories last year, was awarded a rating of 136 – 6lbs higher than any other horse in the world and the highest rating for over ten years.
Cape Cross (pictured), who sired 29 individual Black type performers in 2009, was responsible for no fewer than eight rated runners – more than Monsun, A P Indy, Dynaformer and Pivotal.
Halling’s superb G1 winner and Arc third Cavalryman was rated the best three-year-old trained in France of last year, and the best sired by a stallion based in Great Britain.
Multiple G1 winner Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) was rated 120, making her the best female over 12 furlongs.
Sulamani’s Mastery was ranked the best three-year-old stayer in the world following his wins in both the St Leger and Derby Italiano.
The Darley America stallions were also prominent in the rankings, with Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d’Oro) crowned the world’s best three-year-old filly, whilst Street Cry’s Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Zenyatta was rated the world’s best horse on the all-weather or dirt.
