Too Darn Hot, the youngest member of the hugely successful Dubawi/ Dar Re Mi dynasty, firmly stamped himself as a Classic contender on Saturday, 15 September with an easy win in the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.
Settled off the frantic early pace set by Bye Bye Hong Kong and then Cardini, Too Darn Hot was still cruising under Frankie Dettori as they approached the two-furlong marker, but once asked for his effort, Too Darn Hot soon took up the running and moved clear to win by a length and three quarters.
This was the third win in as many starts for John Gosden’s charge, who stormed to a four-length victory in the G3 Solario Stakes at Sandown just two weeks ago. He will now step up to G1 level for his next start, with his intended target due to be decided in the next 10 days.
Too Darn Hot was bred by Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber’s Watership Down Stud and is out of the aforementioned multiple G1 winner Dar Re Mi (Singspiel). Too Darn Hot is a full brother to another very smart performer in La Ti Dar, who finished a brave second against the colts in the G1 St Leger just half an hour later.
Dubawi, even by his own stellar standards, has been enjoying a magnificent year. He has sired no fewer than 14 individual Stakes winners since the start of August, more than any other European stallion by some margin. He also became the first UK-based stallion ever to sire 100 Group winners this July.
