First-season sire Shirocco's progeny are, like their sire, likely to improve with age but progeny of the young Darley stallion have nonetheless demonstrated that they are more than capable of winning as juveniles, with Grand Vent becoming his sire’s third individual winner on 13 September with victory over a mile at Maisons-Laffitte.
Settled at the rear of the field after missing the break, the Andre Fabre-trained colt demonstrated an impressive turn of foot, speeding down the home straight to win by a length and a half, with the third-placed runner a further three lengths back.
Bred by Darley, Grand Vent is out of the multiple Stakes winner and G1 performer Housa Dancer, also dam of G3 winner and G2 York Stakes second Bushman.
Shirocco has now sired three winners and a further six placed horses from just 16 runners.
Also on Monday, fellow first-season sire Byron increased his number of winners to six when Street Honor was victorious over seven furlongs in Naples.
Bred by Joseph O'Leary, Street Honor is out of the eight-time winner La Rendita, now dam of two winners from two foals to race.
