Teofilo enjoyed his best sale result to date with his Australian-sired crops when a colt by the Classic-winning sire was purchased for NZ$340,000 (£157,000/€213,628) at the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale on Monday.
Purchased by Wexford Stables, the colt was bred by and sold by the Hawkins family of Wentwood Grange. Teofilo’s previous highest-priced sale result with his Australian-sired crops was the dual G1 winner Kermadec, also bred by the Hawkins family and sold for NZ$260,000 in 2013. Offered as lot 5 on Monday, the colt is the first foal out of the dual Stakes-placed mare Perfect Katch.
The highest priced filly of the opening session of the two-day Premier Sale was the NZ$450,000 (£207,823/ €282,743) paid by Rosemont Stud, Victoria, for a daughter of Exceed And Excel. The filly, bred and sold by Sir Patrick Hogan’s Cambridge Stud, hails from the outstanding family of Diamond Lover. A half-sister to Octagonal, Diamond Lover has produced the G1 winners Don Eduardo and Tristalove, the latter also being dam of four G1 horses. Cambridge Stud’s Exceed And Excel filly is out of an unraced sister to the G1 Australian Derby victor Don Eduardo.
Exceed And Excel also scored a hit with the very first lot into the ring, a colt offered by Lyndhurst Farm, who was snapped up the Hong Kong Jockey Club for NZ$300,000 (£138,548/ €188,495).
Exceed And Excel will stand at Kildangan Stud for €40,000 Oct 1st SLF this season, alongside Teofilo who will command a fee of €50,000 Oct 1st SLF.
