Sweet success for daughter of Dubawi
Dubawi, who recorded his 50th Group winner last week in record time, wasted little time in further increasing his tally of Pattern winners when two-year-old filly Muraaqaba threw herself into next year’s Classic mix, landing the G3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket.
Always travelling well under Dane O’Neill, the Mark Johnston-trained filly demonstrated a tremendous turn of foot in the closing stages to sweep past the long-time leader Calypso Beat and win by almost two lengths, with New Approach filly Winters Moon taking third.
This was her second victory in three starts and a further step up in class could now be on the cards as she holds an entry in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes, due to take place at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course on 27 September.
Sheikh Hamdan’s homebred is out of the Stakes-winning Zafonic mare Nufoos, making her a half-sister to G1-winning juvenile Awzaan.
Dubawi is also sire of no fewer than four G1 winners this year, headed by 2,000 Guineas victor Night Of Thunder, plus a further five horses who have been placed at the highest level.
