Summer Mile victory for son of Cape Cross

Guest Of Honour takes the Ascot G2 contest

Cape Cross' consistent son Guest Of Honour landed his biggest career success on Saturday July 12 when winning the G2 Summer Mile at Ascot. Coming into the race on the back of a Listed race victory at York, he took up the running a furlong from home and battled gamely to the line to win by half-a-length from Mull Of Killough with Street Cry's son Long John running a promising race in third.

Bred by Azienda Agricola Gennaro Stimola, Guest Of Honour is out of the winning Royal Academy mare Risera, herself a daughter of G1 performer Smageta and from the immediate family of five-time G1 winner Rakti.

He is one of 15 Black type performers this year for his sire, who is also responsible for the ill-fated G1 performer Lesstalk In Paris plus a further seven runners who have placed at Group level. Cape Cross was also indirectly responsible for the winners of both the Derby and the Oaks, with his daughter Ouija Board producing dual Derby winner Australia and his son Sea The Stars siring Oaks winner Taghrooda.
