Successful Goffs sale for Darley stallions
Goffs Orby Yearling sale concluded yesterday with progeny of Darley stallions enjoying tremendous success.
The pick of the pile was undoubtably Teofilo who had two fillies sell yesterday for €950,000, returning a very healthy average of €439,000 over the sales entirety for the Kildangan-based stallion. First of the duo through the ring was lot 268, a full-sister to this seasons Group-wining filly (and Oaks second) Tarfasha, which was bought by that fillies owner Hamdan Al Maktoum. The second of the big money purchases was lot 403, another full-sister to a top-class runner by Teofilo, this time being Irish Derby hero Trading Leather, with John McCormack BS signing to secure her.
The leading GB-based stallion over the course of the sale by average (with more than one selling) was Exceed And Excel, with all of his nine yearlings finding new homes with an average of €195,000 (comparing very favourably to their conception fee of £22,500). Three of his lots topped €300,000 with Shadwell Estate buying a colt out of Special Dancer and a filly out of Miss Chicane whilst David Redvers signed for a colt out of Great Hope.
The progeny of Iffraaj were also in high demand with nine lots selling for an average of €103,000, over ten times their conception fee of €10,000, with six lots selling for €100,000 or more.
First-crop stallion Poet's Voice also enjoyed a fine sale with three of his lots selling for an average of €92,000, over six times their conception fee of £12,000, whilst US-based Lonhro had a rare European sale-entrant (from his first Northern Hemisphere crop) which was knocked down to Shadwell for €450,000.
