Kheleyf has sired no fewer than 28 winners this season and Captain Ramius is among the smartest of them as he showed with victory in the Listed Star Appeal Stakes at Dundalk on Friday.
Now unbeaten in three starts, the colt was bred by P Lyons and is out of the Muhtarram mare Princess Mood, a daughter of German 1,000 Guineas winner Princess Nana.
Expectations were high for the first European crop of Exceed And Excel after the stallion was crowned Champion freshman in Australia. His southern hemisphere runners continue to excel: Wilander (pictured), won the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude last year, has already hinted at an even more lucrative three-year-old season with victory in the G2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Exceed And Excel’s northern hemisphere runners have not disappointed either. He is sire of 19 individual winners to date in Europe, including G2 Lowther Stakes winner Infamous Angel. One of his dual winners, Mrs Kipling, gained black type on Saturday in the G3 Cornwallis Stakes. She finished third behind Waffle, by Kheleyf, who was runner-up.
