Goodwood's five-furlongs is one of the quickest in the country and proved perfect on Thursday July 28 for Exceed And Excel's electric gelding Masamah. Quickly out of the stalls in the G2 King George Stakes, he bagged the nearside rival and never saw another rival, recording a one-and-three-quarter length triumph in a rapid 56.67 seconds.
Recording his eighth victory in a 20-race career, his previous best had been a brace of Listed races at York and Chester. Still improving at the age of five, the likely next stop will be a return to the Knavesmire for the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes.
Bred by Stanley Estate & Mount Coote Stud, Masamah is one of four winners bred by the Distant Relative mare Bethesda, herself a half-sister to G1 Middle Park winner, Fard.
Masamah is one of 15 Stakes winners for Exceed And Excel in 2011 including Helmet, the dual G1-winning juvenile in Australia, the unbeaten G2 Queen Mary heroine Best Terms and German Classic winner Excelebration.
