Sound And Silence capped an outstanding first day of Royal Ascot for Godolphin when defeating his stablemate Roussel to triumph in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes with his paternal half-brother James Garfield back in third.
The first and third marked the 100th and 101st European-bred Stakes performer for Exceed And Excel, who had previously sired a 100-1 winner of this five-furlong race in Flashman's Papers in 2008.
Having made a winning debut at Newmarket's Craven meeting, Sound And Silence was unsuited by the going when fourth in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown last month. Bred by Godolphin, he is out of the Elusive Quality mare Veil Of Silence, herself an unraced half-sister to the G1 juvenile winner Ibn Khaldun.
The success continues a great run of form for progeny of Exceed And Excel, with Sound And Silence and James Garfield becoming the 26th Stakes performer of 2017 for his sire.
Excced And Excel stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland during the northern hemisphere breeding season.
