Teofilo sired his sixth individual winner on Friday July 15, when Solfilia destroyed her rivals at Nottingham. Making her fourth start, and first in a Handicap, she was always close to the pace, quickened two furlongs from home and sauntered clear for a three-and-three-quarter length triumph.
Bred by Stonethorn Stud Farms, he is out of the winning Royal Applause mare Suntory, herself a half-sister to multiple G3-winner Fracas. Suntory is a granddaughter of the three-time Classic placed Sorbus, who is responsible for many high-class performers including Beat Hollow, Oasis Dream, Zenda and Wemyss Bight.
Now sire of six impressive winners, Teofilo is the leading first-crop stallion if ranked by average Timeform rating. With 16 runners rated (as at July 13), his progeny average 77, two points higher than both Dutch Art and Dylan Thomas, three clear of Sir Percy and Vital Equine and five better than Dark Angel (minimum five rated runners to count).
