Sifting Sands overhauled pacesetter Dreamer’s Disease in the shadow of the wire to post a head victory in the Better Talk Now Stakes at Saratoga 29 August.
The eight furlong turf contest provided the three-year-old son of Dubawi with his first career Stakes win while improving his record to three wins from five starts.
Sifting Sands broke alertly under jockey Manny Franco and was content to track Dreamer’s Disease from third through the early stages of the race. As the field rounded the far turn and straightened for home, Franco swung Sifting Sands into the clear on the outside in order to have a clear shot at the frontrunner. The bay colt then displayed an impressive turn-of-foot, overtaking the longtime leader nearing the wire to post the victory.
Sifting Sands was bred in Great Britain by Newsells Park Stud and is out the mare Yummy Mummy, a winning full-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and Champion, Fame And Glory. In addition to Sifting Sands, Yummy Mummy is the dam of British Classic winner Legatissimo, winner of the G1 QIPCO One Thousand Guineas, G1 Nassau Stakes and G1 Matron Stakes.
Sifting Sands is the 27th Stakes winner of 2021 for his sire Dubawi, with 16 of those victories coming at Group level. Among them are recent G2 City of York Stakes winner Space Blues, G2 Great Voltigeur victor Yibir and this year’s G1 Dubai Turf winner Lord North, one of 44 individual G1 winners sired by Dubawi.
Dubawi has also enjoyed considerable success as a broodmare sire this season with his Group-winning daughter Anna Salai producing this season's emphatic G1 Derby and G1 King George VI winner Adayar.
