Shirocco’s Wild Coco lands the Lillie Langtry
The Darley stallions have been enjoying a superb week at Glorious Goodwood, and on Thursday Shirocco’s four-year-old daughter Wild Coco compleed an on-the-day Group race double when running out the impressive winner of the G3 Lillie Langtry Stakes, shortly after Heavy Metal (Exceed And Excel) landed the G2 Richmond Stakes.
Winning the 14-furlong contest by two and three quarter lengths, this was the third career victory for the Henry Cecil-trained filly, who broke her maiden by no fewer than eight lengths last June before gaining her first Black type win in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket the following month.
Bred by Gestut Rottgen, Wild Coco is the first Stakes winner out of the G2 winner Wild Side, a half-sister to German St Leger winner and G1 producer Win For Us.
Shirocco has now sired ten Black type performers so far in 2012, including the well-regarded G3 winner Hartani and English and Irish Oaks second Shirocco Star.
