Dubawi’s seasoned campaigner Sheikhzayedroad, last seen finishing a creditable third behind Cannock Chase in the G1 Canadian International, made a very successful seasonal debut when running out the easy winner of the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy.
Settled in mid-division under jockey Martin Harley, Sheikhzayedroad swept to the front with a furlong and a half left to run and, easing clear of his rivals, ran on superbly to win the 14-furlong contest by almost four lengths.
This was his ninth career victory and his fourth at Stakes level, having previously won the Listed Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket, the G2 York Stakes and the G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes. He is now likely to be aimed at the G2 Dubai Gold Cup, due to take place on Dubai World Cup night on 26 March.
Sheikhzayedroad is out of the winning Highest Honor mare Royal Secrets, herself a daughter of G2 winner Marble Maiden.
Sheikhzayedroad is one of no fewer than 23 individual G1 winners for Dubawi so far, also sire of last year’s Dubai World Cup hero Prince Bishop, King George victor Postponed (due to reappear in the G2 Dubai City Of Gold this Saturday at Meydan), and new Darley stallions Night Of Thunder and Hunter’s Light.
Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £225,000 October 1st SLF.
