Shamreen took command just over a furlong from home and drew off for an impressive three-and-a-quarter length victory in the G3 Qatar Airways Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh.
The victory marked a return to form for the daughter of Dubawi, who captured the G2 Blandford Stakes over the same course last fall.
Ridden patiently by jockey Pat Smullen, Shamreen was rated in second, just behind the pacemaker Massif Central, through the early stages of the race. Shamreem was asked for a bit more run three furlongs out and she responded, collaring the frontrunner with just over a furlong to go before pulling away for the victory.
Shamreen was bred in Ireland and races as a homebred for H.H. Aga Khan. She is out of the Bahri mare, Shareen, winner of the G3 Fillies Stakes. Shareen is a half-sister to Sharestan, winner of the G3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes.
Dubawi has sired 15 individual Group winners this year, plus a further four Black type winners and 15 horses who have been placed at Stakes level. Dubawi has sired 2017 G1 winners Zarak, Nezwaah, Sobetsu, and Almanaar.
