Shamardal colt wins Italian Classic

Three-year-old colt Crackerjack King takes the G2 Derby Italiano over 2200m at Capannelle

Sire sensation Shamardal was once again to the fore, with a new Group winner in Italy courtesy of son Crackerjack King.

Bred in Ireland by Italian-based Azienda Agricola Allevamneto Deni, Crackerjack King is out of Claba Di San Jore, and is a half-brother to 2007 Derby Italiano winner Awelmarduk and last year’s third in the race, Jakkalberry.

Brillliantly gifted as a racehorse, and now a rising star in the Australian sire ranks, Shamardal has sired five individual Stakes winners this season, headlined by G1 Epsom Handicap winner Captain Sonador.

The sire of 28 international Stakes winners already to his credit, Shamardal will stand this season at Kelvinside, for a fee of $88,000 including GST.
