Manduro’s son Duca di Mantova, second in last year’s G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club, added a second Black type win and a ninth career victory to his record on 15 November, running out the gutsy winner of the Premio Roma Vecchia in Italy.
Settled in third, where he remained for much of the 14-furlong contest, Duca di Mantova began to mount his challenge once entering the home straight and engaging in a lengthy battle with Ouragan Gris, showed great tenacity to prevail by half a length.
Bred by Stefano Luciani, Duca di Mantova is out of the Group-winning Wolfhound mare Vale Mantovani, who has produced three winners to date. She is from the family of multiple G1 winner and US Champion three-year-old Afleet Alex.
Manduro, who stands at Haras du Logis in France at a fee of €7,000 October 1st Special live foal, has enjoyed a very successful year. He has sired three individual G1 winners including Prix Jean Luc Lagardere hero Ultra, plus Prix Royal Oak winner Vazirabad.
