On only his third career start, My Prospero, a three-year-old son of Iffraaj, successfully stepped up in grade to claim the Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown on Thursday, 19 May.
The bay colt, trained by William Haggas, was settled on the inside rail by jockey Tom Marquand to track the leaders, before running on strongly in the closing stages to win the one-mile contest by a comfortable length and a quarter.
My Prospero, who holds an entry for the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, raced only once at two before breaking his maiden on his seasonal debut at Newbury in April.
Owned and bred by Sunderland Holding Inc, My Prospero is a half-brother to G3 scorer My Oberon (Dubawi) and the filly, My Astra, who won at Listed level yesterday. They are out of the G3-winning mare, My Titania (Sea the Stars), herself a half-sister to Muthmir, a winner of eight races including at G2 level.
Iffraaj is now the sire of 73 Stakes winners, among those 11 have won at the highest-level including Champion miler Ribchester and French Champion two-year-old Wootton Bassett. Iffraaj also boasts an average of 20 winning two-year-olds in every crop.
