Route to glory

GB-bred son of King's Best lands G3 Tropical Turf Handicap in Florida

Spice Route, a four-year-old son of King's Best, continued his excellent run since being sold to race in America with victory in the G3 Tropical Turf Handicap at Calder on Saturday.

Bred in Wales by Usk Valley Stud from the Oaks d'Italia winner Zanzibar (In The Wings), Spice Route won twice in Britain in the spring of this three-year-old season when trained by Michael Bell in Newmarket. He was also Stakes-placed three times before being switched to the stable of Roger Attfield in the US. Prior to Saturday's victory, he finished runner-up in the G1 Canadian International and third in the Sky Classic Stakes, both at Woodbine in October.

King's Best's Stakes winners in 2008 include the G1 Lockinge winner Creachadoir, Ancien Regime, Calming Influence, King's Apostle and Not Just Swing. He stands in France for the first time in 2009 at Haras du Logis for a fee of €15,000 (Oct 1, Special Live Foal).
