Raven’s Pass has been enjoying an excellent spell with his two-year-olds in August with five winners on the board already this month.
Leading the pack is the multiple winner Lake Volta (pictured) who has two wide-margin wins at Brighton and Ripon already on his CV. The Mark Johnston-trained colt, who is rated over 100 by Timeform, will likely head back to Ripon on Bank Holiday Monday for the Listed Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy.
The big Newmarket stables of Sir Michael Stoute and John Gosden both have very promising maiden winners. The first to record a very easy victory was the Clarehaven resident Il Primo Sole, who knew his job very well when making all the running to win easily at Yarmouth by four-and-a-half lengths. The Biddestone Stud-bred colt holds an entry later this season in the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes.
Four days later on 21 August, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Radio Source broke his maiden at Lingfield when running right away in the final furlong to record a five-length triumph. The 120,000gns yearling who was bred by Rathregan Stud was described after the race by Ryan Moore as a “lovely horse”.
His winners' list is completed by the unbeaten pair of Salazar, a debutant scorer for Kevin Ryan at Ayr, and Timetosaygoodbye, an excellent prospect in Turkey with a brace of easy triumphs.
Another name to note is Tower Of London who is a very promising performer in Japan. He made a winning debut at Sapporo at the end of July and on his only subsequent run on Sunday finished an excellent second in the Open class Clover Sho at the same course. He has already amassed more than €100,000 in prizemoney in only two starts.
