Progressive Maputo lands the Glasgow Stakes
Cape Cross’s three-year-old son Maputo justified odds-on favouritism in the Listed Glasgow Stakes on 18 July, winning the nine-furlong contest to become his sire’s tenth Stakes winner this year.
This was his fifth victory in seven starts and he has been out of the money only once in his career.
Bred by Darley and running in the colours of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum, Maputo is out of the multiple Stakes winner Insijaam (Secretariat), who is also dam of Group winner and G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes second Pictavia. The dam is herself a half-sister to Champion filly Hatoof – winner of the 1,000 Guineas, the G1 Beverley D Stakes and the G1 Champion Stakes. Insijaam is also a half-sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Irish Prize.
Cape Cross is also sire this year of Guest Of Honour, who won the Listed Royal Windsor Stakes en route to a creditable third in the G2 Summer Mile Stakes last weekend. Another of his sons, Caucus, was second in the G3 Sagaro Stakes before landing the Listed Esher Stakes earlier this month.
