Private first class in big Sunlight sprint

Three-year-old son of Harry Angel goes four on the trot with track record-breaking victory at the Sunshine Coast

Harry Angel colt Private Harry remained unbeaten and continued his meteoric rise up the class ranks on Saturday, 4 January when he impressively won the rich Magic Millions Sunlight 3YO Plate at the Sunshine Coast.

A Super Maiden winner at Newcastle in early November, Private Harry added a Benchmark 64 win at Hawkesbury and a Benchmark 72 victory at Rosehill Gardens to his record before his biggest test in the $3 million Queensland slot race over 1,100m.

Confidently ridden by former English jockey Ash Morgan, Private Harry raced near the lead before taking control at the top of the home straight and sprinting clear to beat reigning G1 Golden Slipper queen Lady Of Camelot by nearly 2.5 lengths.

Too Darn Hot filly Arabian Summer was a head away in third place as the winner clocked a new track record 1 minute 3.66 seconds on a surface rated a Soft 6.

Trained at Newcastle by Nathan Doyle, Private Harry was bred by Rheinwood Pastoral Company at Mittagong out of Australian mare Happy Pilgrim.

Kurrinda Bloodstock and Doyle Racing purchased the bay colt at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $115,000 and has now won prize-money and bonuses totalling $1,376,275 from four starts.

Harry Angel was a Champion Sprinter in the UK and in just a few seasons at stud has sired 174 winners of 374 races worldwide, including 16 Stakes winners of 24 Black-Type races.

The shuttle stallion will be represented by five colts and six fillies at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale starting 7 January.
