Dubawi has been enjoying a successful week on the racecourse, with Zarak (his son out of the great racemare Zarkava) retaining his unbeaten record with a very promising win at Maisons-Laffitte yesterday, while earlier today his daughter of another top-class performer (this time So Mi Dar who is out of multiple G1 winner Dar Re Mi) successfully took on the colts to land the Derby Trial at Epsom to stake her Oaks claim.
Also on 20 April, Dubawi’s three-year-old son Raseed became another Classic contender for his sire when recording his third career win and first at Black type level, taking the G3 Prix Noailles at Chantilly in eye-catching fashion.
Always prominent under jockey Aurelien Lemaitre, Raseed allowed the sole filly in the race, Valenka, to take a substantial lead but once asked for his effort in the home straight, demonstrated an impressive turn of foot to sweep to the front and won going away by three lengths.
Trainer Freddie Head indicated after the race that he will now be aimed at the G1 Prix du Jockey Club, due to take place on 5 June.
A Shadwell homebred, Raseed is out of the Stakes-winning Fantastic Light mare Sudoor, herself a half-sister to fellow Black type winners Ethaara and Mudaarah (Cape Cross). They are from the immediate family of Bahri.
Dubawi is now sire of 12 individual Black type performers so far this year, headed by G1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Postponed (also winner of last year’s King George). He has two further G1 performers in Mubtaahoj and Gun Pit and with the European flat season now getting into full swing, has plenty of exciting prospects to look forward to in the coming months.
