Mubtaahij, a three-year-old son of Dubawi, won his first Stakes race on Saturday March 7 when taking the Al Bastakiya, run over nine-and-a-half furlongs on Meydan's dirt surface. Coming into the race on the back of close second in the G3 UAE 2,000 Guineas (behind Hard Spun's Maftool), he sat back in third until the top of the straight before asserting past the previously unbeaten Uruguayan Champion Sir Fever.
Bred by Dunmore Stud Ltd and sold to current connections for €450,000 as a yearling, Mubtaahij is a half-brother to five other winners including Europe's Champion three-year-old filly of 2010, Lily Of The Valley.
Dubawi has enjoyed a tremendous start to 2015 and Mubtaahij becomes his seventh Stakes winner of the year (behind only Medaglia d'Oro). Heading the pack is star Australian sprinter Shamal Wind, winner of the G1 Oakleigh Plate, with Safety Check winning a pair of G2's in Dubai and Dubday remaining unbeaten in Qatar when taking their most prestigious race of the year, the H.H. The Emir's Trophy.
Dubawi stands this current season at a fee of £125,000 alongside his G1 winning son Poet's Voice (£12,000 Oct 1st, SLF).
