Modern Games punched his ticket to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile with an authoritative five-and-a-quarter length victory in the G1 Woodbine Mile on Saturday, 17 September.
The three-year-old son of Dubawi added a third G1 victory to his already impressive resume, to go along with earlier wins in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp and the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar.
Settled near the back of the field through the early stages of the race, Modern Games was swung wide on the far turn by jockey William Buick. With a clear path on the frontrunners, Modern Games turned on the afterburners and took off, quickly roaring past his rivals in the final furlong to win going away.
Bred in Ireland by Godolphin, Modern Games is out of the New Approach mare, Modern Ideals, herself a half-sister to fellow Darley stallion and G1 winner Ultra.
Dubawi’s exceptional season continues, he has now sired 37 Group winners, seven have won at the highest level, including fellow Classic winners Coroebus (G1 2,000 Guineas) and Eldar Eldarov (G1 St Leger); Naval Crown (G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot) and Rebel’s Romance who won his first G1 race in Germany in August.
