Meerjungfrau wins again in Germany
Manduro's three-year-old daughter Meerjungfrau became the standout candidate for the German 1,000 Guineas on Monday April 21 when winning G3 Schwarzgold-Rennen over a mile at Cologne. Making her seasonal debut (she was an unbeaten juvenile including winning a Listed race at Hannover) she was held up in the rear early, before making a wide sweeping move in the straight to win going away by one-and-three-quarter lengths.
Bred by Gestut Gorlsdorf, Meerjungfrau is a daughter of the Dashing Blade mare Meergottin, herself a half-sister to Stakes winner Mannico and from the family of Champion German juvenile filly Monami. Meergottin is back in foal to Manduro.
Standing at a fee of €7,000 at Haras du Logis in France, Meerjungfrau is one of three Stakes winners from Manduro's third crop, after impressive Newmarket Listed winner True Story, a leading Derby candidate, and impressive Italian filly Donna Prassede, a Stakes-winning juvenile who will also be on the Classic trail after a comeback win recently at Rome.
