Major Cadeaux, a four-year-old son of Darley stallion Cadeaux Genereux, progressed beautifully from his recent second in the G3 Gladness Stakes when landing the G2 bet365 Mile on an action-packed afternoon at Sandown Park on 26 April.
Tackling the mile for just the second time in his career (having finished sixth in last year’s 2,000 Guineas), Richard Hannon’s charge was held up towards the rear of the field during the early stages and moved up on the rail before switching to the outside close to home. Under a hands and heels ride from Richard Hughes, Major Cadeaux saw out the mile in style to win by three-quarters of a length from Rob Roy, with the fast-finishing Metropolitan Man a short head back in third.
He will now be aimed at the G1 Lockinge Stakes, due to be run at Newbury on 17 May.
Meanwhile, first-season sire Kheleyf sired his third individual winner when two-year-old colt Waffle landed the five-furlong maiden at on his racecourse debut at Leicester.
His paternal half-brother, Johnmanderville, took third in the same race.
