Champion Group One-winning sprinter Exceed And Excel recorded yet another Stakes winner on Saturday in Australia, courtesy of the lightly-raced filly Hooness.
Lining up for her second run back from a spell, the Jason Petch-trained filly recorded a length-and-a-quarter victory in the Listed Redelva Stakes in Adelaide. Bred by the Western Australian based Wylie Group from Spectrum’s Image (Spectrum), Hooness has recorded three wins from seven starts. Happy Hippy (Shamardal), owned by Patinack Farm, worked home well to finish in third place.
Exceed And Excel filly Baby Corn, already a Listed winner and Group Three-placed, ran half-a-length second in the Listed H C Nitschke Stakes on the same card.
The leading freshman and second-season sire in Australia and also leading second-crop sire by number of winners last year in Europe, Exceed And Excel is currently splitting his fellow Darley sires Lonhro and Reset on the Australian third-season sires’ table and has now sired 21 individual Stakes winners headed by the G1 Blue Diamond victor Reward For Effort.
Irish ex-pat Miss Singhsix, who now races for Team Valor in America, scored her second Listed victory in the Maryland racing Media Stakes at Laurel Park. Third last year in the G2 El Encino Stakes, the five-year-old daughter of Singspiel is out of the Miswaki mare Whatamiss and was bred by John O'Connor. Another Singspiel filly, Andina, gained black type when placed in the China Doll Stakes at Santa Anita.
In New Zealand, Dubawi two-year-old colt Cellarmaster continued his recent excellent form when finishing a narrow third in the G3 2YO Classic at New Plymouth. The colt has also won the Group Three Eclipse Stakes and been placed at Group Two level this season.
