King's Best mares in the spotlight

Haras du Logis’ new resident a prominent influence among valuable matrons

The two-week December sales at Tattersalls has drawn to a close with King's Best’s name to the fore both as sire and covering sire. On Tuesday, Princesse Dansante sold for 1.7 million guineas, making her the second top-priced broodmare of the entire sale behind Saoirse Abu. The King’s Best five-year-old, who is a half-sister to Funsie, the dam of Authorized, won the Listed Prix Joubert and was twice placed at Group Two level and was sold in foal to Dansili.

The same day Alovera, a full-sister to Stakes winner Army Of Angels and a half to the dam of Cheveley Park Stakes winner Serious Attitude (Mtoto) changed hands for 230,000gns. Meanwhile Machiavellian mare Temple Street, whose page has received two serious updates this year via her Queen Mary Stakes-winning daughter Langs Lash (Noverre) and Group Three winner Elusive Wave, who is out of her half-sister Multicolour Wave, was sold carrying to King’s Best for 210,000gns.

Another daughter of King’s Best, Crystal Reef, who is a half-sister to Group Two-winning stayer Coastal Path (Halling), was among the top prices on the third day of the sale when selling to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 160,000gns.

Cape Cross' dual Group winner Sabana Perdida changed hands for 425,000gns while Mrs Kipling, a first-crop daughter of Exceed And Excel made 165,000gns.

Princesse Dansante, who has joined the Darley broodmare band, is set to visit Authorized in Ireland next season while sales-topper Saoirse Abu will be covered by his fellow Kildangan resident, Teofilo.

Breeders in France can benefit from King’s Best’s first season at Haras du Logis alongside Country Reel, Sulamani and Layman, where he will stand for €15,000 (Oct 1, SLF).
